Johnny Wade Goodwin, of Brashear, Texas, passed away on Tuesday July 13th at the age of 60. He was born July 14th, 1949 in Hico, Texas. In 1972 when Johnny was a young man he became a Journeyman Iron Worker, skilled in all aspects of a dangerous and demanding trade. He continued to excel as an Iron Worker and because of his strong beliefs in his craft and his union, Johnny was elected and re-elected as Business Agent for Dallas Iron Workers Local #481 from 1979 until 1988. Continuing his career path of making sure working people got their just due; in 1988 Johnny accepted a position as a mediator with the Texas Industrial Accident Board. In this position, he gained the respect of both employer and employee representatives as a fair and honest mediator for 20 years until his retirement in April of 2008. Johnny is survived by his wife Judy, his five children, Amy and Danny Goodwin, Christie, Amy and Corey Lagadinos, his daughter-in-law Jenny and two grandchildren Chase and Aubrey, his mother Odelia Goodwin of Stephenville and his four siblings, Kimmy McGee, Tommy Goodwin, Dell Goodwin and Denise Perkins. Services were held at the Monica Park Christian Church at 2600 Broadway Boulevard, Garland, TX 75041 on Saturday, July 17th, followed by a gathering to celebrate his life at Humperdinks in Dallas. “One thing that comes to mind and we feel very special about is on July 17th which was the day we had Johnny's memorial service, a law firm that Johnny had worked with when he was at the Texas Industrial Accident Board contacted the Texas Senate and asked them to raise the Texas flag over the Texas State Capital in his memory. Johnny always said he didn't live in the United States, that he proudly lived in Texas and that Texas was a nation of it's own! Johnny waived proudly above the Texas State Capital on July 17th! The law firm has received the flag and will be sending it to my mother.”
“Johnny's dream came true when he purchased 118 acres of land in East Texas (Brashear, TX) and was able to retire with his wife. Johnny loved his wife, family, dog, friends, 3 horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 12 Dexter cows, 4 goats and 27 chickens!”
